Professor Hesham El Gamal – Engineering

Professor Hesham El Gamal has been recognised by the Institute of Scientific Information as one of the top one per cent of highly cited and most influential researchers. With a PhD in electrical and computer engineering, both his research on information theory and inventions have made a significant impact on mobile standards, and been adopted in commercially successful products.
Hesham spent 20 years at Ohio State University and watched many of his students become technology leaders in Silicon Valley. He is now an Associate Dean in the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Engineering where he is training and inspiring a new generation of Australian engineers to tackle pressing global challenges. Hesham is passionate about embracing cross disciplinary collaboration as a core enabling value in research.
